Our Story from Humble Beginnings

1978 - 1979: Inception

In 1978, Reg Plett moved from Steinbach, MB to Quesnel, BC to drive a logging truck. There was no company in Quesnel that would hire him as a company driver because he had no previous logging experience. So he decided to purchase a 1976 Freightliner Cabover and began working for a logging contractor as an owner/operator. This was the beginning of R.R. Plett Trucking Ltd.

1980 - 1989: The Move

Reg was only logging for 1 year in Quesnel before moving to Vancouver to begin working with Trans Western. At Trans-Western he was doing trips between BC > ALBERTA. Reg worked with Trans Western for 2.5 years. After his time at Trans Western, he bought a flatdeck b-train and began working with RN Kelln hauling lumber from S&R Saw Mills to the Vancouver Ports. From ‘86-’89, the local lumber fleet grew to 6 trucks with 6 super-b trailers.

1990 - 1999: Expansion to Highway

Reg continued to operate R.R. Plett Trucking servicing Fraser Mills throughout the 1990’s and by the end of the 90’s, he had grown to a fleet of 11 trucks with superb’s hauling lumber around the Greater Vancouver area. In 1995, Trinity Transport was founded as Reg began a tractor service highway division to service some of the larger Canadian transport companies. By 2000, the tractor service division had grown to 8 trucks.

2000 - 2009: Focusing

In 2001, Reg sold his local lumber hauling contract and focused solely on the tractor service side of the business. Trinity Transport was merged into R.R. Plett Trucking and the company continued to grow. In 2009, Reg purchased City Tractor Service Ltd. which was a local carrier with 45 owner/ops doing local P&D. Within a year, R.R. Plett was operating 45 trucks based out of Langley, BC.

2010 - 2016: Expansion

R R Plett continued to grow to more than 60 trucks doing tractor service work mainly for larger carriers in BC/AB. In late 2013, the decision was made to start a marine reefer container division and the first 5 chassis with gensets were purchased in January 2014. By the end of 2015, the container division had grown to 70+ chassis with gensets, with 65 highway trucks and 20 local trucks.

2017 - Present: Intentional Growth

In January 2017, R R Plett Trucking purchased a Vancouver drayage carrier and West Coast Freight was added to the Plett Group. West Coast Freight gave the opportunity to service both local and long-haul drayage moves for our customer base. With this access to drayage at the Port of Metro Vancouver, we have been able to extend capabilities to serve our customers even better than before.
